This story gives us an unusual take on German history in which, for the film’s protagonists, both states – the GDR and the GFR – are simultaneously a reason to escape and the place they yearn to be.

The film, consisting of six female portraits, is a kind of political and psychological portrait of the female part of the perestroika generation.

A small town in western Germany is the last stop for 26,000 pigs per day and a temporary home for masses of Eastern European temporary workers.
 The workers of the largest slaughterhouse in the country are fighting for survival, while German activists who stand up for their rights, are fighting against the local authorities. At the same time, Munich high school students are working on the play "Saint Joan of the Stockyards" and trying to grasp the old text and German capitalism of our days. Interwoven with the thoughts of the young people and their examination of the text in the rehearsals, the film deals in various fragments with conditions and facets of temporary work and labour migration in Germany.

Sixty-something Orthodox Jewish identical twins Abraham and Shraga live together in their childhood home in Brooklyn. Since the death of their parents, they have lost control of their surroundings, allowing trash to pile up and stray cats and vermin to move in. Forced into action by their neighbor, the brothers agree to let a professional cleaning crew invade their unclean sanctuary. Led by Hanan, a sympathetic Jewish man, the cleaners gently cajole and negotiate with the brothers to confront their demons and finally let things go.
