The "Frankoni" Tent Circus has been touring the cities of the Rostov region for many years. Amidst the backdrop of military aircraft flying over Rostov-on-Don and military trucks traversing the region's roads, the circus stands as a unified entity. Each worker, with their unique history and perspective on the world, is tightly interconnected within this collective. Dair, who adheres to a uniform, anticipates receiving a summons any day now, prepared to head to the front line. However, the uncertainty of the future remains a mystery to all.

A romantic story of a family of clowns, the birth of their circus numbers, told by the main characters themselves, clowns Dolly and Domino. As in any family, there are problems here. They’re surrounded by the kindness of the Swiss clown Gardi Hutter, who shares her dreams with them all.

Animal tamers from various continents shine in the spotlight and struggle for their existence behind the scenes. Namayca, Carmen, Nadezhda, Aliya, and Anosa are five women from four different countries, but all are charismatic animal tamers. They work in the circus and train tigers, lions, and bears. Between toiling and smiling, the female circus artists disclose their passion for their “wild” animals and extraordinary profession. But the director Anka Schmid illuminates the harsh reality behind the sparkling images and offers a respectful view into the exotic life of these artistic performers. The women speak candidly about their wishes and desires – about their lives between freedom and extreme dependence, between admiration and exclusion. And their profession that may soon be outlawed.

On January 28, 1982, the Moscow bohemia was shocked by the news, the authenticity of which was hard to believe, the head of the Union State Circus, Anatoly Kolevatov, was arrested.
