For some, "Both Two" is the flagship of modern pop-rock music, while others will say that these five are not much different from millions of the same young fashionable bands. Talented guys were born in a distant Siberian city, and in the heart of the Urals they met a beautiful red-haired girl. They have a group. The group has its own unique character. And now the debut album, festivals all over the country, all the radio stations get the band on the air, and the magazines - to interview them. And suddenly the group goes on a long sabbatical. Why? Young. Daring. Talented. Forced to grow up. Is this the end?

Latgale is a small area in the east of Latvia, on the very outskirts of the European Union. Sometimes it seems that this land is in the center of the reservoir. In other cases, it is represented as an ark in the desert, saving mankind, covered with sand. Not so long ago, life in this part of the Baltic region was completely different. The number of Jews in cities sometimes reached 90%. The Old Believers, having escaped persecution in Russia, built their own villages there. At present, Latgalians are distinguished by their dialect, poverty and provinciality. This land is disappearing. The way of its existence, which for centuries made this region exceptional and extraordinary, disappears.

Krivoluchye is a district in Tula, but you can’t see a familiar city in this film, this is a reflection, partly mockumentary, about emigration. Andrei and Oksana have not seen each other for almost a year and are temporarily returning to their small town, from which both left. Geographical boundaries and the boundaries between the true and the invented are blurring while the characters are looking for the answer to the question “why leave or why stay”, if you can live like in a movie, directing this reality anywhere in the world.

A wordless exploration of nostalgia during a painful return to one’s homeland. The feeling of nostalgia for childhood from an early age is inherent to my generation, and I felt it was important to represent this—without imposing the personal, but rather creating a space for the viewer’s own memories.

The film tells of one day in the life of a man, who now will never leave his cell. We observe not only routine activities, such as the prisoner performs every day. Primarily we accompany him in ceaseless consideration, of what he succeeded and what he failed to achieve before committing the crime, in his prayers and discussions with God, and also in returning to occurrences, which once seemed to him to be completely ordinary, and today seem distant and completely unreal.

Volny Chor (meaning Free Choir) is now the most prominent cultural symbol of the Belarusian protest movement. Founded in the summer of 2020 during mass demonstrations against election fraud and police violence, the choir performed in supermarkets, subways, and at protests – always masked to protect themselves from repression. Dozens of members were arrested, and the choir was forced into exile. But even abroad, Volny Chor continues to sing – as an artistic expression of resistance and a symbol of hope. Volny Chor transforms protest into music and exile into resistance. Running parallel to the choir’s story is the tragic fate of performance artist Ales Pushkin, who died in prison for his art. No other Belarusian artist challenged the regime so openly and radically. His performances and paintings made him a symbol of artistic resistance. In prison, he suffered from the same illness as Maria Kalesnikava: a perforated stomach ulcer. In July 2023, Pushkin died in Belarusian custody – following mistreatment and a lack of medical care. VOLNY CHOR is both a political chronicle and an emotional journey through five years of Belarusian history. The film portrays art as memory, music as a weapon – and exile as a new form of community. This is not just a film about Belarus – it is a universal story about the courage of art and the price of hope.
