The works of this sculptor astonish with their lifelike presence! It feels as though we are not looking at marble figures, but at living people: Ivan the Terrible, Peter I, Nestor the Chronicler, Christ... The emotions, movements, and character of each figure are rendered with breathtaking precision. The brilliant creations of Mark Antokolsky are perhaps even more renowned than the artist himself—possibly because he spent a significant part of his life outside Russia. Yet, it was Russia that remained in his heart, and it was Russia’s heroes and historical figures that he most often chose to immortalize in his sculptures.
