During the Soviet era, over 30,000 monuments to Lenin were erected across the USSR. They were typically placed in locations where Ilyich could “see” the fulfillment of his ideals: factories and plants in operation, workers’ living standards improving, and the successful construction of socialism as a whole. In turn, Lenin’s presence was believed to have a beneficial influence on the surrounding area. Flowerbeds were planted, flags displayed, and blue spruces planted around the monuments. These were, in a sense, “temporary portals” leading to a communist tomorrow. How do these “islands of the future” look today? What does Lenin see now? How do the descendants of the builders of communism perceive him? The film is composed of 10 vignettes, filmed in different corners of Russia.

The film tells the story of the Volga village Krasnovidovo, a place marked by the presence of Empress Catherine II, the great writer Maxim Gorky, and the first cosmonaut in history, Yuri Gagarin.

The Moscow Metro named after Lenin revived a Soviet tradition by forming a choir from its own employees: cashiers, train operators, and station staff. The women of the future, like those of the past, are engaged in a cycle of ritual family events: weddings, childbirth, funerals. The mother repeats her own mother’s life path, while the daughters unknowingly follow the trails of their mother and grandmother. The inertia of these repetitions possesses such overwhelming, almost mythic power that it cannot be resisted.

Northern Russia, the Mezen River basin. For decades, spent stages of rockets launched from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome have fallen here, on the periphery of Russia’s space industry. The film is based on footage from the 2000s, shot by Chechen—the head of a metal-salvage team—who, with the obsession of a pioneer, spends months searching by touch for rocket debris in the northern forests and swamps.

In the Siberian village of Ruslanovka, the Smorodnikov family struggles to survive after the death of the mother, leaving five children in the care of their alcoholic father. Over several years, the film follows the transformation of the eldest son, Andrey — from a kind and caring boy into a confused, embittered teenager, detached from his own life and the world around him.

The country is getting rid of stray animals - by shooting them. This is happening because most people in the country are indifferent to stray animals. But there is one woman who cares about the lives of these stray animals. Over the course of 5 years, she has accumulated over 200 injured, abandoned and starving dogs in her home. From discomfort and inconvenience, her neighbors have sued her and have already won twice. At the moment, the heroine is awaiting a third lawsuit, the likelihood of losing this trial is known to many. But she is ready to do anything to save her dogs. Will she be able to save them?
