Before the Second World War, the Japanese turned the island of Matua into a real defensive fortress with a whole system of trenches, military catacombs and bunkers. Now the island belongs to Russia. Scientists from leading institutes of the country and 200 military specialists from different branches of the armed forces are sent on an expedition to study the military legacy left by the Japanese in 1945.
