Evgeny Danilovich Surkov (1915-1988) was undoubtedly one of the brightest figures in the world of theatre, literature and cinema. For many years he headed the magazine Art of Cinema. Attractive and at the same time scary, Surkov embodied all the best and worst features of the Russian intelligentsia, crushed by totalitarian ideology. Born at the wrong time, he still constantly tried to match it.
