The song “At the Nameless Height”, famous throughout the country, is, in fact, a front-line report in rhymes. The text, written by the poet Mikhail Matusovsky, tells about the feat of 18 Siberian volunteers. In September 1943, they voluntarily set off to storm Hill 224.1, a stronghold of the Nazis. At the cost of their lives, the fighters helped the Soviet troops to break the German defenses in the Roslavl direction. The history of this feat for many years was unknown even to the relatives of the heroes of the Nameless. Relatives could not find out about the fate of their loved ones and find a burial place. Two fighters miraculously survived the battle, but they did not know about each other for many decades. Thanks to Vladislav Plotnikov, fellow soldier of the volunteer heroes, who conducted a long search operation, the true story of the battle and the fate of the volunteers became known throughout the country.
