The film follows the launch of a groundbreaking Russian scientific project on the study of meditation — including the little-known phenomenon of “post-mortem meditation,” or "tukdam". In close collaboration with Buddhist scholars led by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, prominent Russian neuroscientists conduct unique research in Tibetan monasteries across India. Assisting them are monk-researchers — a new generation of Buddhist philosophers deeply engaged with experimental science. Carefully selected members of the Buddhist clergy are given the rare opportunity to intern at scientific institutes in Moscow and St. Petersburg. Together with Russian scientists, they explore profound questions at the intersection of philosophy and neuroscience: What is consciousness? How is it connected to the human brain? And could ancient Buddhist meditation practices hold the key to understanding its nature?
