The island-reserve Sviyazhsk is considered one of the main attractions of Tatarstan. It attracts tourists with majestic temples and churches, monuments and museums. However, once Sviyazhsk was a real haven for the blind, orphans, veterans and the mentally ill. Residents even called this place "the island of unnecessary people." Now there are no boarding schools and hospitals, but "unnecessary people" continue to live there. The Island itself tells about them.
