Mikhail Klus, a resident of Yakutia, hails from the Austro-Hungarian Germans. It is commonly believed that "what is good for a Russian is death for a German," but Misha does not fit this saying. Klus is a representative of a rare profession – a ship freeze-out specialist. Every winter, in temperatures of -50, freeze-out specialists, like ice miners, carve ice tunnels in the river to repair ships. In the harsh cold, Misha dreams of a trip to the sea with his son, a place he has never been to.
