The material of this film was filmed during 1991-1993, immediately after the death of Sergei Dovlatov. But this is not an epitaph film. This is an attempt to understand the personality and work of the writer in hot pursuit. His father, sister, widow, and friends talk about their Dovlatov in the film. Some try to analyze the phenomenon of the writer Dovlatov, others talk about the features of his character, others recall incidents from the life of Sergei, but they all agree on one thing: in America, their Sergei finally became happy.
