An attempt by the authors to tell about another, little-known side of the Chechen war. Tell me why, at a time when there were peppy reports on the restoration of constitutional order on Russian television, hundreds of soldiers and officers were almost officially given into slavery to the Chechens? Why were only relatives involved in their fate, while the prisoners themselves remained the subject of bargaining? Why, when liberating Grozny from militants during the second Chechen campaign, soldiers and officers were often sacrificed by the high command.
