Four years ago my husband and I had a daughter. Doctors diagnosed her with Down syndrome. Then there was shock, horror, panic, humility, acceptance. Then I met Masha. Masha worked as a speech therapist at the regional rehabilitation center. At that time, she was collecting documents to pick up the boy from the orphanage. Completely alien to her child with Down syndrome. My husband and I had a hard time accepting the birth of our own special daughter. Fragile Masha is absolutely alone, not relying on anyone's support, she was going to take such a child completely voluntarily. I wondered what drives people like Masha?
