On September 1, 2004, armed terrorists captured more than a thousand people during a festive parade at a Beslan school. They held the hostages for three days. On September 3, during the storming of the building, 10 employees of the Special Purpose Center of the FSB of Russia were killed. Among them was a resident of Serpukhov, Major Roman Katasonov. In 2020, the construction of a school named after the hero began in Serpukhov.
