In 2015, the Church announced plans to build a church in Torfyanka Park in the northeast of Moscow. Local residents opposed the project, and the conflict lasted nearly seven years.
Our team was the only one to document it from beginning to end. It was after our journalistic coverage that Torfyanka gained international attention and became a symbol of grassroots resistance.
Moreover, when a criminal case was opened against the park’s defenders, our film crew was named among the main instigators. Our homes were searched, our computers and filming equipment confiscated, and we were accused of acting under the direction of foreign intelligence services.
After 2,475 days, the conflict ended in a complete victory for the residents, who succeeded in saving their park.
