The city is a machinery that brings together the nature and human made, the rich and the poor. There are varying generations, nations, religions. Yet, we are drilled to think about the cities first through their physical image. Tallinn is defined by the landscape of red rooftops of the old town. The synonym of Paris is The Eiffel Tower. Sidney is known by the opera house. On the other hand we follow routines in home town. We repeat the same trajectories and directions without realizing that making daily slightly different choices would make the whole pattern of life more diverse. The city creates the distance. We do not know where will the water from our sink flow. We have no idea know how do the street lights switch in. The city pushes into hierarchies. The one who has more money, gets closer to heaven and eats more delicious food. 19 Floors attempts to get rid of these patterns through three protagonists. Writer Sass will host us on the 18th floor of an office building. Chef Kairi in a cafe on the 1st floor. We will meet Edgar underground, in a car salon. Directing the viewer through this vertical is not about to be didactic. The idea is to create the empathy towards people around us, regardless of the height of the floor, the specifics of the work or other aspects.
