All the Light That Remains is a hybrid film blending documentary and fiction to explore how war lingers in memory and place. In a remote Finnish village, Ukrainian workers Oleksandr and Mykyta plant trees on land once used by Ukrainian prisoners of war during Finland’s war with the Soviet Union. As they work, echoes of past and present conflicts emerge, reflecting Russia’s current war in Ukraine. Juxtaposing real geologists with a fictional narrative shaped by the Ukrainians, the film meditates on history, displacement, and the cycles of war.
