Filmmaker Vitaly Mansky talks with Yana Isaenko, a graduate of Marina Razbezhkina’s School of Documentary Film, about documentary cinema as a way of bearing witness to our times, her new film “The Doors Are Closing,” shot before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, and its protagonists, who find themselves caught up in a transformed Russian reality. Why did Yana leave Russia after the war began? Where is the line between observation and a filmmaker’s responsibility? And is it possible to remain on the sidelines when ideology, absurdity, and propaganda are becoming increasingly pervasive? A conversation about cinema, war, emigration, and the gulf that has opened up between people on opposite sides of a new reality.

Mothers and fathers of gay, lesbian, and trans children from Georgia, Moldova, Russia, and Ukraine travel to Berlin to walk together in the Pride parade. Living under one roof, they prepare for the march — painting signs, cooking borscht, and reflecting on how their relationships with their queer children have evolved over the years.

The Moscow Metro named after Lenin revived a Soviet tradition by forming a choir from its own employees: cashiers, train operators, and station staff. The choir conductor discovers a previously unperformed opera titled "The Flood", which tells the story of the last day before the end of the world. After a successful premiere, the choir embarks on its first tour, becoming participants in the onset of a real apocalypse.
