A documentary about the only professional rural theater in Russia — the Motygino Drama Theatre. The film follows the lives of four actors who moved to the very heart of the taiga from across the country. They gave up life in comfortable cities for the sake of art, to bring it to residents of remote settlements and villages. Will they be able to adapt to the unique conditions of the taiga and isolate themselves from the rest of the world?

In 1931, following a peasant uprising, 30,000 kulak families were deported from the Altai region to Narym in the Tomsk region. Nearly a century later, Nikolai Zhivotyagin — the elderly and solitary son of one of those dispossessed peasants — sets out for his father’s homeland in an attempt to reconstruct his lost family history and find surviving relatives. Will he be able to find a family again?
