The film tells about the fate of the outstanding conductor of the 20th and 21st centuries, Gennady Panteleimonovich Provatorov. Musicologists and critics put him on the same level as the great conductors Rozhdestvensky and Svetlanov. From a young age, Gennady grew up in a musical environment, early began to learn to play the piano. During the Second World War, together with the Central Moscow School of Music, he was evacuated to Penza. After the war, before graduating from the conservatory, he entered the conducting faculty. Gennady Provatorov represented the Moscow conducting school in the city of Kuibyshev for 10 years and brought up a whole galaxy of musicians, received the title of People's Artist of Russia here. At this time, the Kuibyshev Philharmonic Orchestra is among the top 10 in the country. In Belarus, where Provatorov completed his career and the conductor's students and followers remained, he was simply idolized.
