What remains when war takes everything away? Near the front line, in Rubizhne, a mother, a father, and their 14-year-old daughter Sonya search for an answer through selfless care for animals and people. Their love for their homeland keeps them from leaving. They have taken in a herd of cows and share milk, as best they can, with elderly people who remain in the frontline zone. Sonya becomes a volunteer, delivering milk and bread to those in need while dreaming of a peaceful future. Can they preserve their faith in kindness and hope for a better life amid the horrors of war?

The characters in the film are volunteers. There is a war going on. The military shoot and solve their problems. Peaceful people suffer. Volunteers, risking their lives, without any contracts, solely on their own enthusiasm go to the very thick of the war and help other people. Because they are people too and cannot sit quietly at home when others are suffering.
