In the Smolensk region, there were battles for destruction, the Soviet troops retreated, leaving their dead comrades on the ground. They remained missing, there was no one to write a report, send a funeral. Soldiers and officers worthy of the highest awards, who were considered almost traitors. Several storylines are intertwined in the film: the story of the exploit of Captain Ivanov, the story of the 119th Krasnoyarsk Rifle Division, which held the defense near the village of Dudkino, and the work of search teams in the Smolensk region.

2019 marked the 80th anniversary of the events on the Khalkhin-Gol River, during which Soviet troops defeated the Japanese army that invaded Mongolia. On this memorable date for Russian-Mongolian history, a detachment of volunteers organized a search expedition to places of military glory. Their goal was to perpetuate the memory of the fallen heroes-liberators and, along the way, tell the story of the events that happened through the prism of the artifacts found.
