The camera follows Artyom Nechepayev, a search volunteer with twenty years of experience, during the spring–summer excavation season in the Belgorod region. At the site where the Kursk defensive operation of 1943 began, his team recovers the remains of a soldier.
Who was this man? Can he still be identified? How many others never returned from the war? What does the earth, still bearing the traces of battle, have to say?
Through the personal experience of the searcher, the viewer learns not only about excavation techniques, but also about what drives people to return, year after year, in order to restore the names of the fallen.
