The small village of the Saratov region Shikhany in 2018 suddenly became known to the whole world. It was here, according to the British intelligence services, that Novichok, a chemical warfare agent, was produced, with the help of which they tried to kill ex-Russian GRU officer Sergei Skripal and his daughter Yulia. After that, the once-secret Soviet chemical weapons development center appeared on the world map. Shikhany today is a place from which life leaves. Once part of a huge Soviet military program, the village lost almost all incentives for development after the prohibition of chemical weapons. Now everything has stopped here, frozen and drowned in the atmosphere of winter lifelessness.
