A documentary essay about inner freedom, about choosing a path, about responsibility for one's own destiny and for the fate of loved ones. The protagonists of the film are priests who are temporarily forbidden to serve for canonical reasons, priest John Okhlobystin and Hierodeacon Prokhor (Lisitsyn). Priests who are banned from serving or who have voluntarily resigned from their ranks are called the insulting nickname "defrocked."
