The author of the film began filming his daughter Ella immediately after her birth. He documents the first year and a half of Ella's life, the first experience of her fatherhood, the experience of feelings and gains associated with the stages of the transformation of an infant into a small person.

We can all present some account of our own childhood. Jay Rosenblatt presents this personal account of America, the norms of education adopted in it and their callousness. And it turns out a tragic accusation to a system that did not raise, but only forbade, limited, imposed and bred "complexes" in boys of the same generation as the author.
