The mountain peaks of the state of Arunachal Pradesh in northeastern India have been inhabited by the Nishi peoples for centuries. There was constant enmity between the tribes and very rare truces. The men had a tradition that the victorious in battle caught a hornbill and fastened its beak to his hat. The beak was a symbol of strength and courage. And the rhinoceros bird itself, or as it is called gomrai here, is the totem of the tribe. Since then, everything has changed. Now the same Nishi tribes no longer kill, but protect the Gomrai. And it started twenty years ago. Nest keepers are what former thugs call themselves.
