Vladlena Sandu, born in Crimea and raised in Grozny, survived the Chechen war and later became an internally displaced person. A VGIK graduate now based in Amsterdam, she has made award-winning films shown at major international festivals.

Film-self-portrait. In 1998, an armed attack was made on our family. We managed to escape, and we left Grozny. We were silent about it all the time.
