GOLOS is a collection of stories told by, and about the people of Ukraine; exploring from a unique perspective the nature of human identity and the region’s history. The Maidan revolution, where the narrative starts, creates the backdrop as we visit four cities and listen to their inhabitants; old, young, and from different educational, ethnic and economic backgrounds. By documenting what people celebrate and what national holidays mean to them, the film provides a context for people to communicate their hopes, fears and ambitions. These poignant encounters show a common struggle for peace despite differences of opinion, and the influences and memories that form Ukrainian identity.

In the village of Dvuluchnoye, lost among the Russian expanses, teenagers have nowhere to put themselves especially after school. No clubs or other entertainment for you. As you wish, have fun. The inhabitants of the village make a living by growing, knitting and selling brooms, the guys are in the wings for adults. And here is a self-taught saxophonist, who made a brass band out of the guys and rehearses every evening in the backyard of the local House of Culture. In the evenings, their heartfelt whistling is carried far around the district.

The name of Vladimir Ovchinnikov has been widely known in Russia for the last decade, just as long as the street artist lives in the city, which seemed to bewitch him. The city of Borovsk is a strange place, which has been an island of memory for many innocent victims since the 14th century. Boyar Morozova died here, archpriest Avvakum was imprisoned, victims of political repressions were shot. Here, Ovchinnikov suddenly began to draw on the walls of houses, despite the indignation of the authorities, since the "naive" graffiti artist is not 19 years old, but 80. Real passions began to flare up in the city in 2015, when Vladimir Ovchinnikov depicted his first "memorial to the victims of political repression."

Everyday life in Venice is inextricably linked with water. 123 islands connected by piles do not require traveling by car, motorcycle, bicycle or even rollerblading. The only and universal transport of the city is boats, or rather vaporetto (water tram), water taxi, and, of course, the legendary gondolas, the main tourist symbol of the city. We will see this city through the eyes of those who ensure its smooth existence, fishermen, vaporetto drivers, boat builders of any type. The life of these people reflects the ancient maritime culture, its traditions and legends.
