In each of his films, director Ilya Averbakh filmed children and the elderly, and confessed to a close friend: “I came to the cinema to film the White Guard".

An attempt to comprehend the changes that have taken place in Russia with people over 100 years, realized in the unusual genre of comparing the current reality and photographs taken at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The photographs, taken by Russian realist photographer Maxim Dmitriev, were printed as large posters and traveled with the film crew to the places where they were taken. People of different classes, social groups and professions consider "themselves" a century later and talk about life and about those they see in the photographs.

Director Semyon Aranovich was a military pilot in his youth, and the facts of his biography were reflected in his documentary, feature films. Aranovich's films about Gorky, Akhmatova, Shostakovich, as well as television series are widely known. Among his brightest films are "Summer Journey to the Sea" and "Torpedo Bombers". He died in Hamburg full of ideas. In the final we will see the last frame of his latest film "Agnus Dei", which remained unfinished.

The protagonist of the film lives in the former capital of barge haulers, the city of Rybinsk. His values in life can be summed up in a phrase from The Beatles song "Nothing's gonna change my world". The rules of life of the "last hippie of the USSR" and his political principles against the backdrop of the everyday life of a small Volga city and the holidays of a large country.

Chukotka is a place located on the edge of Siberia, where the cold winter lasts for ten months. It's a severe land, where only the strongest are able to survive. One of the oldest Siberian tribes lives there for centuries. Its traditions, culture and life in harmony with nature were brutally destroyed by the Soviet regime. Since the collapse of the USSR, they have been trying to survive, missing the wisdom of their ancestors and hope for the future. One of the last sources of life and tradition of Chukchi is whale hunting, but the fate of this old tradition is also threatened. For the Chukchi people, the whales give hope to survive the next winter. When the land of Lorino warms up from the sun, the hunting begins. It is a battle between two worlds, and each of them is on the edge of disappearing forever.

The Samodurov family lives in the village of Uglyanets, Voronezh Region. Shura and her brothers Alyosha and Petya are blind from birth. After the death of her parents and older brother, Shura refused to take her sick brothers to a psychiatric clinic. For the last 10 years they have been living together.

The film is a parable about the curse sent by the ancestors.

In the circus tent „Joy” the same thing happens every day – they dismantle and assemble the tent with a dome full of stars, give performances, and move on to the next place. Lynx and parrot trainers quarrel over every little thing, and Valera the clown always performs alone. Until one day a new partner joins him, the clown Yana, and he starts to dream about conquering the world of the circus together with her.

Kunashir, one of the biggest islands of the Kuril Archipelago, is situated 16 kilometers from Japan. It was occupied by the Soviet army in 1945. One year later, after a short period of cohabitation, 17.000 Japanese and Ainu people who were living in the Kurils and on Sakhalin were deported to the island of Hokkaido. Since that time Japan has been demanding the return of the Kuril Islands. A peace treaty between the two countries still has not been signed.

The story of five cashiers who work the same shift in a supermarket, in Tel Aviv. Most are immigrants from Russia, others are native Israelis. The film follows their relationships, the mutual support and solidarity, dealing with the management and customers, their difficulties making a living and their working conditions, as they try to change their fate. ''Super Women'' is a beautiful example of cinéma verité and a special peek into a hidden world.

In the industrial town of Nizhny Tagil, behind the Ural mountains, the pursuit of an impossible love story between the narrator and Ekaterina, a young woman descendant of noble family of Russian aristocracy - the Orlovs. Navigating between poetic illustrations of the passion that blossoms under our eyes, and schizophrenic wanderings in a hostile environment, the film opens in its second part to some characters linked to Ekaterina's world, offering an intimate and heart-breaking portrait of Russia.

This is the story of a provincial Russian family told by a ten-year-old boy Stepa with sincere spontaneity. Due to his age, the merciless reality, where he is surrounded by eternally drunk relatives and an unkempt life, is refracted through the purity of perception. “Boy” is a portrait of a child who has not yet experienced the bitterness of life, who is still happy, still finds joy everywhere and smiles with a bright smile without thinking about the future.

A tour guide, a military man, a bank clerk, an aircraft mechanic and dozens of other restless men from all over Ukraine gather every autumn in Uman to work during the Hasidic pilgrimage for the Rosh Hashanah holiday. For four days, tens of thousands of Hasidim in a festive mood, with songs, dances and a huge amount of luggage, come to this tiny town in a continuous stream. For four days, local "porters" sleep for 3 hours in makeshift halabuds on the side of the road, and the rest of the time they carry tons of cargo on themselves in order to earn their two-month salary in a short time. Along the way, they constantly have to seek mutual understanding with an almost "alien" client and with each other. But it’s hard to upset them with something, because they are sure: “God knows what he is doing.”

An old woman lives in a remote village in Belarus. While the end of her life approaches, she starts to read the worn-out notebooks of her daughter. Together we go on a journey to the unknown world of a person who is abandoned and forgotten by everybody.

“You can’t cut a person in half with a saber, you won’t have enough strength, but cutting off your head is so easy,” says Konstantin, a hundred-year-old grandfather, choosing a birch broom.

Some time ago they would come here to walk their dogs, play with their kids or jog. Today they are two hostile parties fighting over a patch of ground in a park. Every Sunday half of them come to pray by a wooden cross, and another half is there to defend a small spot of land, which they want to stay public. Who could have imagined such a confrontation in a country which had been fully secular, even atheistic for decades? Still, a collision between orthodox believers and local dwellers, who don’t want to have a new church instead of a park or a public garden is quite common in the Russian capital these days. “200 Churches” development project started by Russian Orthodox Church in cooperation with Moscow government provoked several severe conflicts in the city. The film focuses on a story of Torfyanka, a small park where contention between the believers and park defenders has turned into a severe struggle with night watches, physical fights and mutual offence.

A biopic documentary about Boris Nemtsov, whose whole life, starting from a young age, is tightly intertwined with the history of the new Russia. The main voice of the film is the voice of Nemtsov himself, a compilation created by the authors from archival radio and television interviews. At the same time, the film is built on unique archival footage and memories of major figures of the 90s. Among the narrators are Tatyana Yumasheva, daughter and adviser to President Boris Yeltsin, Valentin Yumashev, head of the presidential administration, Yeltsin's press secretary Sergei Yastrzhembsky, businessman Mikhail Fridman, politician Grigory Yavlinsky and many others. This is not only a biography of Boris Nemtsov, but also a film about the history of Russia over the past 25 years.
